In 1899, James Bower moved to the area and homestead. His farm became known as Sunnybrook farm, where Bower raised purebred cattle and Percheron horses. In 1988, part of his farm was donated to the Red deer and District Museum Society. The ten acres that now make up Sunnybrook Farm Museum include barns and workshops built by the bowers and a pioneer log home moved to the site from the Evarts district. The collection at the museum includes Hudkins and Van Slyke plows, both of which were invented in the area, early tractors, binders, rakes, and threshing machines. There is also an extensive collection of dairy and blacksmith equipment.
Sunnybrook Farm Museum offers several social studies and science programs for elementary students which are currently being developed for the latter part of 1998. Interested teachers should contact the museum for further information.
