"Proud Traditions: Métis Culture and Heritage" will be on display at the Musée Héritage Museum, in St. Albert, from June 2 to October 28, 2000. Encompassing the personal stories of the founding families of St. Albert, the exhibition will tell the story of the vibrant Métis heritage in the area. The stories behind the names and events that have shaped St. Albert, will be explored in the exhibition, enlightening visitors to the uniqueness of its founding families.
The mix of European and First Nations cultures was a powerful presence in the community. Local Métis involvement in the fur trade, the St. Albert Mounted Rifles during the North-West Rebellion and celebrations including the annual pilgrimage to Lac Ste. Anne, and the importance of music and dance are all a significant part of the development of the community of St. Albert and the province of Alberta.
The exhibition is designed to be a hands-on interactive experience. Walk into a log cabin, listen to the stories of the local families, try on a L'Assomption sash, jig to the traditional fiddle music, or try the fiddle yourself! "Proud Traditions" will delight and inspire.
