First Oil Well in Western Canada

The Rocky Mountain Development Company began drilling in 1901 and struck oil at a depth of 1,024 feet (312 m) the following year. By 1904 that well was nearly dry, but it encouraged further exploration in the area, which led to the discovery of the Turner Valley field in 1914.
