A world of heroics, personal sacrifice and ingenuity unfolds for anyone entering these doors. At over 20,000 square feet (1,858 sq. m), this is the largest military museum in western Canada. The Museum of the Regiments is actually four individually-run museums under one roof: Lord Strathconas Horse (Royal Canadians), Princess Patricias Canadian Light Infantry, the Calgary Highlanders and the Kings Own Calgary Regiment.
Appreciate Canadian military history from a Calgary perspective, through ever-changing exhibits of these four regiments, of their flags, uniforms, weapons, documents and photographs. Lifelike permanent exhibits use some of the latest techniques, accompanied by music and narration. Many speak with the voices of actual wartime combatants, activated when a visitor nears them. One of the outstanding exhibits portrays the Japanese Canadians who fought bravely for Canada and the Empire in the First World War, many in the 10th Battalion, which became the Calgary Highlanders.
The Amoco Theater shows special military documentaries, and the Imperial Oil gallery displays traveling exhibits of art and artifacts.
Open Daily 10-4. Closed Wednesdays. Admission by donation. Wheelchair Accessible. Deli restaurant. Giftshop. 4520 Crowchild Trail SW (exit Flanders Avenue), Calgary.
