Grande Prairie Museum

The year 1909 marked the beginning of the last major land rush on the North American continent, when settlers began pouring into the Grande Prairie area of northern Alberta. The Grande Prairie Museum on the banks of Bear Creek testifies to the plight of these early settlers. With restored buildings, farm equipment, and other trappings of homestead life, the museum is Grande Prairie's major historic attraction. Exhibits also include natural history, Aboriginal culture, and local development.

Theme exhibits change, and special displays are created to honour pioneer families. Various festivals are held to commemorate seasonal themes, while weddings are a regular feature in the restored McQueen Presbyterian Church. As Grande Prairie is one of Canada's fastest growing cities, the flavour of pioneer life captured by the museum has grown in importance, and expansion is planned. Historical tours are also available.

Open May 1-Sept 30: daily 10-6. Oct 1-Apr 30: Sun-Fri 1-4. Admission is charged. 102 Street and 102 Avenue in Muskoseepi Park, Grande Prairie..
