Valley Zoo

The Valley Zoo is a 70-acre zoological garden with more than 350 mammals, birds and reptiles, many of them rare, like the White-handed Gibbon or Snow Leopard. As well as exotic creatures, there are animals from our region, such as the prairie dog and swift fox, which are threatened by increasing urbanization. While today’s zoo is a sanctuary for endangered species, it has also been a favourite Edmonton family destination since 1959. Kids love the unique children’s section with its storybook theme, train, merry-go-round, paddle-boats, and pony and camel rides. Everyone will enjoy the daily elephant and sea lion training demonstrations.

Educational programs like ‘Zoodles’ and ‘Night Walkers’ introduce visitors to the animals who live in the zoo-their characteristics, habitat and care. Interpretive signs on the enclosures provide basic information for self-guided tours. In winter, you can visit the outdoor homes of some animals and observe how others adapt to the cold. And all year round, you can also appreciate the relaxing ambience of the beautiful river valley setting.

Open May-June: daily 9:30-6. July-Aug: daily 9:30-8. Sept-Thanksgiving: weekdays 9:30-4, weekends 9:30-6. Thanksgiving-Apr 30: daily 9:30-4.
