On this site, the first of the big ranches in the Canadian West was established in 1881 by Quebec businessman Senator M.H. Cochrane. Plentiful grass and water, cheap lease fees and high-quality cattle did not guarantee success. By 1883 hard winters closed the Ranche down, yet Cochrane had laid the foundation of Albertas beef cattle industry. Relive those early days through western interpretive programs and events.
