Didsbury has grown from its beginnings in the late 1890s as an agricultural community to an oil and gas centre. Historic downtown Didsbury features a number of architecturally significant buildings. It became an Alberta Main Street community in 1995 and is actively rehabilitating these architectural resources.
Outside Didsburys downtown core, there are
several other buildings of historic significance, including the brick and sandstone Old School
(now the Didsbury Museum) and the Shantz house, home of Didsburys first mayor. Both are designated Provincial Historic Resources.
Friendliness and small-town charm make Didsbury a pleasant place to visit. Top-quality schools and medical facilities make it an ideal place for a family or retired couple to live. With its solid business base and prime location (between Calgary and Red Deer), Didsbury is the perfect location for a new or expanding business. The town has amenities such as a challenging nine-hole golf course, an aquatic centre and waterslide, and many other recreational, educational and cultural opportunities for all ages.
