Diplomat Mine Interpretive Site

Tells the story of surface coal mining on the prairies from the first “gopher hole” mines of 1907 to the present day. The star of the show is the huge Marion 360 stripping shovel. The world’s largest machine on land when built in 1927, it uncovered coal seams for nearly 50 years and was the first machine in Alberta designated as a historic resource.
