Historic Markerville Creamery Museum

The Historic Markerville Creamery is located 30 km (½ an hour) Southwest of Red Deer. The hours of operations are May 15 - Labour Day and weekends in September, 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. daily. All other times are by appointments. The governing authority is the Stephan G. Stephansson Icelandic Society. Admission is $2.00 for adults, $1.50 for Seniors (65+) and youths (7-17), preschoolers are free, families $ 5.00.

The collection at the creamery includes a creamery restored to 1930s operating condition, complete with churns, pasteurizers, steam engine, and testing equipment. It also includes a 1939 IHC cream truck, sun dial and Icelandic sculptures.

The museum has a number of other activities such as “Cream Day” on the second Sunday in August, guided tours of the museums, the “Kaffistofa” coffee shop where Icelandic food is served, gift shop, an annual fund raising auction, bus tours and various school programs that run May - June, including the “Hola School” program. The summer camp program runs July - August.
