Mewata Drill Hall

Mewata is an Aboriginal word meaning “to be happy.” The Armoury took its name from the park where it was built in 1915-17 by the federal government. It served as home to several regiments and the militia, as a drill hall and recruiting centre, as well as a venue for large special events. Its massive scale, turrets, towers and crenellated roofline give it an imposing presence. It was designated a Provincial Historic Resource in 1979 and a National Historic Site in 1991.

801-11 Street SW, Calgary. .
