Kinbrook Island Provincial Park is on Lake Newell. The lake is one of many reservoirs in this sunny and dry region of the province, and is a popular stopping place for visitors looking for a refreshing dip.
Recreation opportunities are plentiful. Sandy beaches make sunning and swimming pleasant. Favourite pastimes include boating, water skiing, jet skiing and fishing walleye, perch, trout, whitefish and jackfish weigh up to 30 pounds (13.6 kg). The ever-present winds of southeastern Alberta make this a favourite location of sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts. Bird watchers will find the island and adjacent Kinbrook Marsh a rewarding location. This area is one of Albertas best waterfowl nesting and staging areas that is totally accessible to the public.
Trails for hikers and cyclists lead around the park, where viewing platforms along the way offer great vantage points to the marsh and surrounding prairie. The park loans out discovery packs so visitors can explore the bird world or pond life on their own.
Open year round. Office hours: Mon-Fri 8:15-4:30. Park staff are also available evenings and weekends, especially during the summer. 15 km (9 miles) S of Brooks on Highway 873; 208 km (129 miles) SE of Calgary. .
