Tillebrook Provincial Park provides a cool, quiet respite from the stress of a hot afternoon road trip. Here, the natural, mixed grass prairies of southern Alberta lie in stark contrast to the green grass and trees within the irrigated confines of the park. These environments support an abundance of birds and other wildlife, just a short distance from one of Canada's major interprovincial highways.
Take a break in the shade of cottonwood trees or wander the shoreline of the nearby wetlands. A trail winds through the poplars and willows, out onto the surrounding prairie where you have a good view of a nearby waterfowl project. Along the way you may see a coyote, or a pronghorn antelope and several species of cacti. Further along the same trail you may see warblers, kingbirds, owls and herons.
Not only is this surprising park an excellent place for birdwatching and walks, it is located only about 50 km (30 miles) from the world famous Dinosaur Provincial Park. If one day at Dinosaur Park was not enough for you and you are looking for a good place to camp overnight, this is a good choice.
Open year round. Office hours: Mon-Fri 8:15-4:30. Park staff are also available on evenings and weekends during the summer. Located 7 km (4 miles) E of Brooks on Hwy 1; 188 km (117 miles) SE of Calgary. .
