Fort Calgary Historic Park

In 1875, amid a sea of scarlet jackets and thundering hooves, “F” Troop of the North-West Mounted Police crossed the Bow River to build Fort Calgary. They completed the fort in two months, bringing law and order to the area. The Mounties’ occupation of the outpost ended in 1914, but their legacy lives on as the city of Calgary continues to rise behind the fort where it all began.

Today, the stories of the site, the settlement and its people are told through hands-on displays and exhibits. Programming encourages visitors to become involved in an exciting process of discovery. Located on 40 acres of riverside park, minutes from downtown, the site consists of an interpretive centre, the outside fort reconstruction, and the Deane House Historic Site and Restaurant, originally home to the Fort’s Superintendent.

Fort Calgary is a provincially and nationally designated historic site. Visitor literature is available in English, German, French, Korean and Japanese.

For the centre’s hours and event information, call the Telus Talking Yellow
Pages at and enter 3678. Admission is charged to the interpretive centre only. Partially wheelchair accessible. 750-9th Avenue SE, Calgary.
