With plenty of clay to fashion into brick, tile, and pottery, even more natural gas to produce it, and the railway to carry products to market, Medicine Hat was sure to make a name for itself. The Historic Clay District and the Clay Products Interpretive Centre feature guided interpretive tours at both sites, demonstrations of pottery making, a new tile press to make your own Medalta souvenir and many other activities to enhance your visit. The giftshop has original and reproduction Medalta and Hycroft ceramics for sale.
Including the nearby Medalta Potteries Museum, with its reconstructed 1912 warehouse, beehive kilns, archival facilities, these sites have been designated a Provincial and a National Historic Site as part of the Medicine Hat Clay Industries National Historic District.
