The balconies, gables, and soaring roofs of the Prince of Wales Hotel evoke an alpine chalet on a grand scale. It was built in 1927 by the Great Northern Railway as the only Canadian link in its chain of American resort hotels. Its open timber-framed interior is at once rustic and magnificent. Because of its historical and architectural significance, this unique landmark was designated a National Historic Site in 1992.
