Housed in the 1910 Galt Hospital, a Provincial Historic Resource, the Galt is undergoing an expansion made possible in part by Alberta Centennial Legacy funding, and is slated to reopen in December 2005 as southern Albertas premier orientation centre. Most recently known as the Sir Alexander Galt Museum and Archives, the facility will boast a new discovery hall featuring high-calibre, interactive permanent exhibits exploring the regions living history, and frequently changing traveling exhibits from across North America; a new education centre with a unique Museum School and Learning Studio; enhanced Archives and Collections facilities providing greater access to research resources; an expanded Gift Shop, and an unrivalled Viewing Gallery/Event Space overlooking the Oldman River valley.
In the meantime, the Galt is accessible at Park Place Shopping Centre in downtown Lethbridge [Museum and Gift Shop at the Mall: 403.] and at Lethbridge Centre Tower where Archives and administration are housed. .
